Here is some basic guidance from our team of things you can do to make your release on DSPs (Spotify, Apple Music etc) more effective.

DSP Coverage

  • Try and upload your music for release at least 6 weeks before your release date.

  • Claim your Spotify for Artists profile and make sure it has upto date promo photos and bio information (this helps with playlisting).

  • Ask if you can pitch your release for playlists through your distributor.

  • Make sure you pitch to Spotify at least 7 days before release (4 weeks is ideal).

  • Set-up PreSave to share with your fans (7-14 days before).

Press  / Radio

  • Make sure you upload to BBC Introducing - 7 days before release is good so it hits once the track is on DSPs.

  • Other good places to upload before release are Fresh on the Net & Amazing Radio.

  • Set-up a database of useful, relevant press and radio contacts and send them a press pack with clear information on the release, the artist and link to listen to the music pre-release.

Royalties

  • Register your tracks to collect PRS & PPL royalties.

  • PRS is £100 to sign up, but there are free options like Sentric.

  • PPL is free to sign up - but you need to register for performer & master rights.

  • If if in doubt, ask us for help via our drop-ins.

Why not?

  • Create video clips for socials (especially insta stories).

  • Add these as a Canvas on Spotify to animate your releases.
