Launchpad Overview + guide to other funding and opportunities in Yorkshire [VIDEO]

At this event, Launchpad project director Sam Nicholls (aka whiskas), will talk about the support Launchpad provides for those aiming to build a career in music throughout Yorkshire - including details of their grant-funded support that provides industry advice & mentoring, opportunities to perform live at festivals and events across the region, funding to support project and personal development, as well as for making new recordings. In addition, we will break down what other opportunities are available for artists based in Kirklees, from other regional projects such as Come Play With Me, and national funders such as Youth Music, Help Musicians & PRS Foundation.

Alongside whiskas, there will be the opportunity to hear from two individuals supported by Launchpad over the last few years:

Lily Fontaine is a musician in the band’s English Teacher and Eades and a freelance music/arts writer, label assistant and DJ. English Teacher have been supported by Launchpad, performing live at the Yorkshire Music Forum event in 2019, and the online Launchpad showcase at The Great Escape in 2021. In Summer 2020, English Teacher received PPL Momentum Accelerator Funding to help them record their debut EP, leading to them signing with Nice Swan Records and lead track R&B getting airplay across BBC Radio 1 & 6 Music.

Nigel Cudjoe is a musician, composer and producer, multimedia designer, and founder of Saving Grace. Working under the moniker of Savvy aka Asaviour he has built a name within the Hip Hop scene in the UK gaining national & international recognition for his work. Touring nationally & internationally, receiving support from DJ's & stations like Gilles Peterson, Mistajam, DJ Mk, Shortie Blitz, Adele Roberts, Sarah Love, Benji B, Huw Stevenson, Alan Raw, , Radio 1, 1Xtra, Kiss FM, Radio X, BBC Asian Network, Capital Xtra and more. Saving Grace received industry advice and mentoring to develop their audio / visual resources.

This event took place at The Lawrence Batley Theatre in Huddersfield, 6:30-8:30pm, on Wednesday 16th February.

Launchpad is delivered by Music Local to support the music sector throughout Yorkshire and supported by Youth Music with public funding from the National Lottery through Arts Council England and PRS Foundation’s Talent Development Partnership, supported by PPL.
