Molly Rymer
Folk-pop artist Molly Rymer — “a grandma in a 20-something’s body” — writes like a conversation in song, blending classic-rock roots with contemporary confessional songwriting. Her work pairs candid lyricism with “effortlessly sweet vocals”, delving into themes of heartbreak, self-reflection and emotional honesty with disarming intimacy.
After emerging as a solo guitar-and-vocal act, Rymer expanded into a full band
project in 2024, incorporating cello, double bass, drums and layered backing
vocals. This shift marked a significant artistic development, shaping a more
dynamic sound influenced by the driving rhythm sections of Fleetwood Mac–era
arrangements and hair-raising harmonies of modern songwriters: Weyes Blood meets Heavy Diamond Ring.
Her upcoming EP, Alone When The Lights Come On, introduces a richer, more
cinematic dimension to her sound. Recorded with her full band for the first time,
the project explores themes of self-deception, emotional avoidance and the
courage required to leave. Moving away from a traditional modern-pop recording
approach, the EP was crafted to emulate the intimacy and intensity of a live
performance — designed to be played loud and felt deeply!
